Justice for Homicide Victims/Justice for Murdered Children hold Crime Victims Forum for L.A. County Sheriff Candidates

Ports O’Call Restaurant in San Pedro was buzzing with law enforcement on Friday evening May 23, when Justice for Homicide Victims/Justice for Murdered Children held a forum for L.A. County Sheriff Candidates. All candidates were invited, five agreed to attend. The forum was moderated by Frank Girardot, senior editor of the San Gabriel Valley News Group and editor of the Pasadena Star News. JHV/JFMC felt that a forum was needed so candidates could answer questions of importance to victims of crime. Enforcement of Marsy’s Law (2008 Crime Victims Bill of Rights Act), impact of AB 109 on public safety and unsolved homicides are of high importance victims of crime.

Questions were anonymously submitted by crime victims and law enforcement and the moderator asked each candidate to answer each question. Participants included retired Assistant Sheriff Paul Tanaka, Long Beach Chief Jim McDonnell, retired Sheriff’s Department Commander Bob Olmsted, Assistant Sheriff Todd Rogers and Assistant Sheriff James Hellmold.
